Character/Game Series: Link (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)
Student or Teacher: Student
Character's Personality:
Link is the sort of person you trust your children with. Compassionate, kind, and idealistic, it's almost difficult to see how a seemingly naive, happy boy like Link could ever save an entire country. He's the sort of person that will drop whatever he's doing for someone else; he rarely ever complains of being overworked. In fact, he seems to feed off responsibility, and gladly goes out of his way to do more than is needed.
He's the 'glass half full' type, and tries to have as much fun with life as he can. He sees the good in most people, and tends to appeal more to that than anything else. Not one to fight verbally, he'll sometimes give into what other people want to make them happy, unless there's a glaring reason not to. Despite this, he's hardly a helpless boy; he fights like a monster when he's confronted with enemies. There seems to be a sort of on-off switch when it comes to that sort of thing; once genuinely threatened, Link turns into a deadly fighter with one hell of a backflip. A natural learner, Link picked up swordplay and shooting quickly and, having practiced for years, is an almost perfect shot with a boy and arrow. Despite his combative prowess, he'd rather talk things out. Swords and arrows, he figures, should be saved for practice and things that try to eat your intestines.
Character Background (modified for game's setting):
Though he was orphaned at a young age, Link grew up as happily as anyone could hope. Raising him was somewhat of a village affair, and by the time he was a teenager, he'd learned how to 'give back to the community', if you will. Ordon was a small place, but everybody knew everybody, giving it a very familial atmosphere. As a teenager, he was the only young man in his village, and a lot of the more local jobs fell to him; most of the men were aging or, like his mentor, often travelled, and Link soaked up responsibility like a sponge. He was a role model for the younger children and he, along with his beloved horse, Epona, protected the village during the rare occasions that it was in danger.
At seventeen, Link was forced into a position that seems to be hereditary; after the children of his village were kidnapped, one thing led to another and he ended up, well ... saving Hyrule. Not a big deal, really. He was turned into a wolf, picked up an ethereal partner, saved the princess, and defeated a villain with a big forehead. Needless to say, he did a great deal of growing up, though the constant run-ins with evil did little to spoil his idealistic opinion of the world. When that was over, he couldn't very well just return home and let life go on. After all he'd seen -- all of Hyrule, actually -- he was seized with the desire to travel. Turning into an explorer in lieu of his world-saving quest, Link spent most of his time finding abandoned villages and ruins.
After two years of that, he stumbled upon the Kokiri Forest, which, in the past century, had effectively closed itself off from the rest of Hyrule. While the Kokiri race itself had dwindled, a venture underground revealed a fairy nest. One fairy in particular seems to have gotten herself attached to him, and with her help, Link's travelled as close as Termina -- and as far as Arcadia. With no other reason than the ability to do so, he's decided to stay. Hey, it looks fun; why not?
